I’ve been playing a lot of Titanfall lately with the open beta, which comes to a close in less than 24 hours. Suffice to say, I’ve been having a lot of fun with what I think is a truly next-generation shooter. But it seems like Respawn still have lots to show us.
Revealed in images of the game’s official artbook, it seems that Titanfall will feature large monsters on some of the maps, which also seem to add some narrative context to the existence of the titans in the first place.
Yes, it’s like Pacific Rim all over again. While it’s explicitly stated, it does seem like that Titans featured in the game were built to combat these creatures and keep them out of cities. It was then revealed that some of these creatures will populate certain maps, flying and walking around passively until provoked by players.
Could this mean that there’s potentially more to Titanfall’s tactics? Could players set up traps and ambushes by tricking wildlife to fight for them? It’s unclear now, but it almost seems too good of an idea to pass up, which probably means Respawn has put it in there.
The artbook also confirmed map names that were data mined earlier this week, while also revealing some new weapons for pilots and titans, including the Arc Cannon which fires bolts of lightning that can hit multiple targets, the Rail Gun which excels at high damage output with great range, and the Avenger, which looks like a minigun for a Titan.
It would be great to still be surprised with more than new weapons and maps when TItanfall eventually drops, and it seems Respawn has more in store for us then we previously thought.
